I have always been involved in the art world in some
way. I went to Hartford Art School. I worked as a commercial artist for years,
my most interesting job was a colorist for the fashion industry. I never thought I would be painting as I was terrible
at watercolors and I spent all my time
mixing colors when I worked in oils. I
never seemed to get to the actual painting. Then I found my love: Pastels. It just so happened that I had an office at
the Shirt Factory in Glens Falls and
there was 2 other pastel devotees and
that was the start of the Adirondack Pastel Society.
Several
years ago I stumbled upon Virginia McNeice's Pastel paintings which were
hanging at the Hubbard Hall
Gallery. Her ability to capture the
colors of the landscape with pastels amazed me and I knew that I had to learn
to use this media. I love the depth of
color you can achieve by playing around with the different types of pastels and
the new pastel papers. My latest
interest is capturing the colors of water.
I spend a great deal of time kayaking on the Adirondack lakes and I try to capture the beauty of my
favorite
environment in my paintings.
